Meteor Crater, AZ

When you’re driving through the desert in Arizona and you see a sign that says “Meteor Crater”, you follow it.

Imagine a cooler, damper time in Arizona’s ancient history, 50,000 years ago, with woolly mammoths and giant ground sloths living in the area. Now imagine a meteorite 50 m across slamming into this spot. Fast forward to the present day and voila, you have a crater  1200 m in diameter, 170 m deep, and with a rim that rises 45 m above the surrounding planes. Very awesome site indeed.
