Gila National Forest, New Mexico. We stayed on Lake Roberts in these quaint cabins run by the same folks who run the general store next door. We did lots of hiking through small canyons and around the lake. Aside from this wild boar, we also saw a large bull lounging along a trail. We thought it was a bear and were terrified to pass him, and even once we saw he was a bull, we were pretty intimidated.
The Gila National Forest is one of the most remote and empty regions I’ve ever visited in the US – I would go back in a heartbeat and stay in the exact same place!
